Steamboat "Splash"
Steamboat "Splash" begins its 8th Season in Lambertville-New Hope.
The familiar clang of the onboard bell announced to Lambertville that the "Smiling Steamboat" was again ready for passengers, just a few days ahead of the annual Shad Festival this year.
The Steamboat Floating Classroom, also called Splash - Student Participation in Learning Aquatic Science and History -is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit foundation. The mission is to offer adventures in learning to school groups, scouts, summer camps, and adult groups aboard a real working paddlewheel steamboat. School groups typically study environmental science – river macroinvertebrates and human influences on a watershed- and the history of the steamboat (an American invention).
Adult groups often absorb the town's fascinating history from a local docent, as they cruise along the beautiful Delaware River. The engineer delights in showing both children and adults how steam technology propels the boat along, at its leisurely pace of 5 mph.
The steamboat is also available for groups for all occasions- think of taking your group for a fun evening cruise prior to the Friday Night Fireworks in town, or imagine a catered autumn foliage cruise.
